author – WARRICK BISHOP is a practising cardiologist with a passion for helping people live as well as possible for as long as possible  He has a special interest in preventing heart attack by using cardiac CT imaging, managing cholesterol, and giving attention to diet. He also supports patients through education as he believes that the best- educated patients receive the best health care.

Warrick graduated from the University of Tasmania, School of Medicine, in 1988  He worked in the Northern Territory before undertaking his specialist training in Adelaide, South Australia. He completed his advanced training in cardiology in Hobart, Tasmania, becoming a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 1997. He has worked predominantly in private practice.

In 2009, Warrick undertook training in CT cardiac coronary angiography, becoming the first cardiologist in Tasmania with this specialist recognition. Warrick is an accredited examiner for the Royal Australian College of Physicians and is regularly involved with teaching medical students and junior doctors. He has worked on projects, in an affiliate capacity, with Hobart’s globally recognised Menzies Institute for Medical Research and has been recognised by the Medical School of the University of Tasmania with academic status.

As a member of the Clinical Issues Committee of the Australian Heart Foundation which provides input into issues of significance for the management of heart patients, Warrick contributed to the Australian Heart Foundation’s 2021 position paper on Coronary Artery Calcium.

Warrick enjoys a strong social media profile and in February 2020 he presented a TEDx talk, Lessons from a Heart Attack, at Docklands, Victoria, Australia, and then another soon after, How Medicine, Money and Mindset are Costing Lives, before a live audience at the University of Mississippi, Jackson, Mississippi, USA.

In addition to authoring numerous articles and the books, Have You Planned Your Heart Attack? (published in the USA as Know Your Real Risk of Heart Attack), Atrial Fibrillation Explained, Cardiac Failure Explained, and now Cardiac Rehabilitation Explained, he founded the Healthy Heart Network in 2018.

This book is his first collaborative venture, with fellow cardiologist Dr Alistair Begg, of Adelaide, South Australia.

All of Warrick’s public endeavours are aimed at helping people live as well as possible for as long as possible by education and support.
