Hi, welcome to another Healthy Heart Minute. My name is Dr Warrick Bishop and welcome. Well, we use it for headaches, we use it for aches and pains, and we use it if we've got a fever temperature. But where does aspirin fit if you want to take it for your heart? Well, there is literature out there that guides us. And to a large degree, we know that if you're a high risk, if you've had a heart attack or a stent or a stroke or bypass grafting, then aspirin is for you. And we've got 20 years of research to support that. It's nowhere near as clear that it's beneficial if you haven't had a problem or if you're at low risk.
