Hi, my name's Dr Warrick Bishop. I'm a cardiologist and welcome to my Healthy Heart Minute.
This minute is about a really, a no-brainer lifestyle, tobacco, alcohol, and their impact on cardiovascular disease. Well, we know exercise is incredibly beneficial, lack of is not. We know tobacco is disastrous. It doubles risk of heart attack for a given individual.
But the good thing is if you reduce that and stop that smoking, you reduce your risk almost back to an aged matched equivalent population within two years. And that's sort of straight line. That's a rapidly diminishing curve. So, the payback on quitting cigarettes is fantastic. Lastly, alcohol, where we know too much can raise the blood pressure. It can tickle up Atrial Fibrillation. There is no single amount of alcohol that is said to be good for your heart.
