Hi, my name's Dr. Warrick Bishop and I'm a cardiologist. One of the things I'd like to share with you is one of the things I do with my own patients when it comes to blood and sugar assessment. I see a few people with early signs of the metabolic syndrome. This is weight around the tummy and my observation is that these people have some insulin resistance. To try and evaluate that, instead of doing a glucose tolerance test where you guzzle down a sweet drink and then hang around the lab for a couple of hours, I tend to use a fasting glucose to see what they're glucose level is at fasting. But I also measure the insulin levels. Insulin giving me an idea of how much insulin is required to hold the sugar at that level for that individual. We can use those figures, those numbers, and plug them into an equation called the H O M A equation to give us an idea of insulin resistance. And I think this is a really important marker.

I've done a little podcast with more detail. If you're interested, please hit the link below. But in the meantime, keep your sugars down. Look after yourself. Good health and don't die from a heart attack. Goodbye.
