Hi, my name is Dr Warrick Bishop and I'm a cardiologist. Here's a couple of quick facts which might be useful for cardiovascular risk.
First of all, is alcohol good or bad for your heart? Well, too much, no good. We know it's certainly linked to atrial fibrillation, but a little bit is probably okay. One or two glasses a day probably lowers blood pressure, probably because it reduces stress at the end of a hard day. Two, is vitamin E good for you? Well, lots of people take vitamin E thinking it's good for the heart. Well, the research so far isn't really supporting that, so it's probably not a recommendation at this stage. Three, should everyone be on aspirin? Well, that's a tricky question. There is probably no indication that fit well, healthy people over the age of 40 should be on it routinely. But there are more specifics to that that I'll cover on another occasion. And lastly, nicotine. Nicotine patches or supplements really do help people quit cigarettes. Over 50 per cent will be successful with these maneuvers. So there you go. If you're after more information. I cover all that in a podcast below. Please enjoy it. Until next time, look after yourself.
Maybe a glass of alcohol and give up the fags. All the very best take care, don't die from a heart attack. Goodbye.
