Hi, my name is Dr Warrick Bishop and I'm a cardiologist.

I'd like to tell you a little bit about why we measure cholesterol levels and particularly LDL, the so-called bad cholesterol levels because we want to get those levels down. We now have researched over a number of different trials which give us an indication that if we get the LDL cholesterols down low enough and below 1.7 millimoles per litre seems to be where we need to get it to. If we can get the LDL cholesterol down that low we may actually see regression or reduction of plaque in arteries. This means that your arteries could literally be getting better and better, healthier and healthier as you take those cholesterol-lowering medications. That's why we bother about measuring levels. That's why we bother about the medication.

I've actually done a podcast on this very topic. The link should be below if you're interested in a bit more information. If you are on cholesterol tablets, I'd be know why and take them because they really work. Wish you the very best till next time. Please don't die from a heart attack. Goodbye.
