Hi, my name is Dr Warrick Bishop, and welcome to a Healthy Heart Minute. Today, I'd like to talk briefly about the cholesterol testing panel that we request when we're looking at your blood. Well, personally, I'd like to take fasting blood, and there are various reasons for that. But importantly, it gives me the best idea of you're fasting triglyceride levels and fasting blood sugar levels. So, fast for eight to 12 hours. Not much more and not much less. We're looking at measuring total cholesterol, but then we measure some fractions like the good cholesterol, so-called HDL cholesterol. We want to know about the bad cholesterol, the LDL cholesterol, and one that's been given the nickname 'The Ugly', which is the triglyceride, the one that we get probably the clearest indication of where it is on your fasting blood. Well, the good, the bad, the ugly. Fast for a bit.

If you'd like to know a little bit more I've done a podcast on the very topic. The link to that podcast is just below. So please have a listen. Learn a little bit more. Hope that makes a bit of sense. We wish you the very best until next time. Bye for now, and please don't die from a heart attack. Goodbye.
