Hi, my name is Dr Warrick Bishop, and welcome to my health minute. Today, a quick word on Aortic Stenosis.

Well, the aortic valve is the main valve out of the heart as blood goes from the heart into the aorta. Well, what can happen if that valve gets tight or narrowed? The word we use this stenosis. We can imagine that if that valve gets tight, then the heart squeezes hard trying to get blood out. But because it's narrowed and tight, not enough blood gets around the circulation. And so these people will have diminished cardiac output and really suffer the consequences of not having enough blood going around their body. They might black out when they walk or they might get symptoms of shortness of breath on exertion because there's just not enough blood getting around the body. You can also imagine that if the heart muscle is squeezing against that very narrowed valve, that tight blockage, that it can also come under duress. It can thicken up initially, but eventually it can fail.

Well, I've done a podcast on that very topic, which I'm sure you'll find interesting. The link for that is just below. Click on that and have a listen. And for now, I'm going to wish you the very best. Take care and goodbye.
