Hi, my name is Dr. Warrick Bishop, I'm a cardiologist and welcome to my Healthy Heart Minute. Few words on COVID from a cardiology perspective, what's important.
Well, because COVID, of course, affects individuals with chronic diseases at a more significant rate and with greater severity than people without pre-existing conditions, then it's so important for us to make sure our cardiological patients are stable on their appropriate medications and well cared for. There's a bit of information to suggest statin therapy may reduce the severity of COVID-19. It's important we think about getting vaccinated to reduce that risk when exposure, which is likely to occur, does occur.
We also know that those vaccines, particularly the Pfizer vaccine may have a very small risk of a trends in short-lived inflammation of the heart. Uncommon, unlikely to be of a significant impact clinically. But it's another thing to be aware of.
