Hi, my name's Dr Warrick Bishop and welcome to my Healthy Heart Minute. Today's minute is about clots.

Clots in the legs. We call that deep vein thrombosis. If that clot in the leg goes up to the lungs, that's called pulmonary lungs embolism, the word we use for clot moving.

While it turns out that deep vein thrombosis and clots in the lungs can occur through circumstance such as immobilization, but it can also occur within families, and we look for particular markers in the blood if that is our suspicion. Things like factor five leiden, antithrombon three, protein C and protein S. These are all tests that we do to try and understand if an individual has a familial risk of developing clots.

Clots in the legs are a real nuisance. Clots in the lungs are life threatening.

If you would like to know more about clots and factor five leiden and associated issues, I've got a podcast attached to this very video. Please have a listen and check it out.

I'm gonna wish you the very best. Take care and bye for now!
